Shopping for Succulents and Cacti at Snug Harbor Farm
There’s a little spot I like to go when I just need to get away from it all… and add more exotic plants and succulents to my collection: Snug Harbor Farm in Kennebunk, Maine. On one of the last summery days of the season I was feeling especially restless and in search of a very specific plant, the silver dollar vine. I knew exactly where I’d go for a little mental reset and plant shopping – Snug Harbor. I love this little outpost and its amazing selection of well-tended plants, including special and hard-to-find cacti and succulents, which are potted in terracotta pots created just for them. While Snug Harbor is a little pricier than a nursery, you’ll find a greater variety of plants, all set against the backdrop of a mini farm populated by exotic pigeons, chickens, ducks, goats, and a pony or two. The whole scene is very picturesque and very Maine, and a great stop for those looking to add just one more plant to their collection.
On this particular day, I picked up my silver dollar vine (admittedly a replacement for the one I’d had previously that didn’t make it), and a cylinder snake plant, but I’m sure I’ll be back soon for even more. Because, like cats, when it comes to plants you can’t just have one.
