Weekend Reading 1.29.22
Happy weekend, friends, and if you’re in the Northeast, happy BLIZZARD. We haven’t had a proper blizzard for what feels like years and the fact that it’s happening on a Saturday makes it even better (working from home takes all the fun out of snow days). Chris and I are staying in today and enjoying a proper snow day filled with reading, old episodes of The Simpsons, grilled cheese & tomato soup, and snuggling the cats. After a rough start to 2022 – cold weather, pandemic fatigue, pandemic sadness, etc – this snow has been a boon to my spirits. Winter is just better with some snow on the ground! There’s more to do and it makes the cold temperatures feel worthwhile. This feels like a fresh start – and coupled with my birthday, which was a few days ago – I’m feeling like things are looking up.
Topical for these dark, cold winter days: How to cope with seasonal affective disorder (or SAD). I use this SAD light and really like it.
In an effort to cheer myself up and make the days feel different (working form home makes them all feel the same!) I’ve been trying to cook more lately. Last week I made this easy 30-minute pineapple chicken & coconut rice and it was SO GOOD.
If you’ve been curious to try THINX, now is a great time to pick some up on sale (I recently ordered a couple pairs of the bike shorts and love them) - use this link to shop through my Leaders profile for an extra $10 off and head to the “Last Call” section for DEALS.
Are you feeling burnt out? Same. We all are, apparently. How to heal our national exhaustion.
Do you have any newsletters you’re loving right now? I subscribe to Culture Study by Anne Helen Peterson and really enjoy it. Her series about Peloton actually convinced me to invest in one.
One of my favorite quilted jackets I’ve purchased this year is on sale (I’m asked about it constantly) - this quilted coat is super cute too (also on sale).
Exercises for people who sit all day (taking note) (my lower back hates me).
I bought myself these boots for my birthday and I can’t wait to get them (they’re admittedly a splurge) - these are similar and under $200
I’m reading this book right now and really enjoying it. It took a few chapters to get into and occasionally leaves me scratching my head, but I’m finding Sci-Fi to be a welcome escape from reality. Next up is Station Eleven - I really enjoyed the show!
