Weekend Reading 10.15.21

Well, hi. Been a minute, hasn’t it? I originally thought my return to blogging would kick off with some long post about everything that has happened over the past, oh, nine months, but every time I sat down and attempted to write, it just didn’t happen. And I realized that I’m not ready to put anything into words, or rather, I’m not going to pressure myself to write about it. but I’ll give you a quick recap for context:

My dad died, Buster (our family dog and frequent photo-bomber) died, I started a new job, Chris started a new job, and just everything else (imagine me gesturing broadly).

I’m certainly not the only one to go through it this year. Besides the overarching shitshow of the pandemic, it feels as though a vast majority of my friends and internet pals have experienced a more-tumultuous-than-normal year so far. Even the good things, like starting a new job, have felt frenetic. We’re so busy just surviving that it’s easy to forget to celebrate. All that to say, it hasn’t been all bad, but it’s been a rollercoaster. And amid everything, it’s been hard to find my way back to blogging. But I’ve missed it! And so, along with my recent posts for wayre this felt like a fairly low-stakes way of making my way back. So hi, I’ve missed you!

Now, let’s get on with the links, shall we?

If you’re in the market for a great newsletter to subscribe to, I’m a big fan of Anne Helen Peterson’s Culture Study. She first drew me in with her series on Peloton (it’s great and she articulates why I enjoy the app so much), but her writing is so much more than that and I appreciate her perspectives.

One good thing that’s come from recent events: I’ve been reading more than ever. I just finished Tangerine (liked it but didn’t LOVE) and I’m not sure what’s next. Maybe one of these addictive reads?

I finally feel like I’ve come out of my 2020/2021 pandemic-induced style rut, thanks in large part to nicer weather and returning to the office. This necessitated a closet-cleanout and refresh - to suit a changing body and shifting needs (no more loungewear, thankyouverymuch, but I must be comfortable). A few items I’ve been wearing and absolutely LOVING: These vintage-inspired jeans (perfect on every level and so comfortable - now I want them in black), this ultra-comfortable tiered dress (I have it in ‘earth’ and it’s so versatile), this bra (seriously, I don’t want to wear any other bra. Ever. i only ordered one and it’s a problem). One last, but not exactly seasonally approps piece: the wrap dress from wayre. It’s honestly so easy and beautiful, and if you use my link, you’ll automatically receive 10% off.

In my shopping cart right now: Jess Kirby’s Hydrate & Glow Edit from Follain. I love Follain and have been looking for a nice eye cream and new serum - this kit is a great price.

Rachel has been doing some awesome upcycled Halloween projects lately - I love this thrifted Halloween lantern DIY she shared recently. Thrift stores are untapped gems for affordable holiday decor!

I’ve followed Joanna for YEARS and always love her perspective and impeccable decor style, so I especially loved this post about creating a calm home.

A few shows I’ve been enjoying: Maid (heartbreaking), Great british Bake-Off (duh), Sex Education (I will continue to sing its praises from the rooftops. This show is so important)

Thank you for being here. Have a wonderful weekend, xo.
